EVSM ukulele instructors hold degrees in music performance, music education, or related fields from respected institutions such as Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, Brigham Young University, and other accredited universities nationwide. Many have extensive experience performing professionally, teaching students of all ages, and working in a variety of musical settings including acoustic ensembles, contemporary bands, and solo performance.
Our instructors teach a wide range of styles—traditional Hawaiian, pop, folk, acoustic singer‑songwriter, worship, contemporary, and more. Whether you’re preparing for performances, building foundational technique, learning to accompany yourself while singing, or simply wanting to play your favorite songs, we tailor lessons to your goals.

Yes. To support proper technique and musical development, students are required to have a well‑maintained soprano, concert, or tenor ukulele at home. Instruments should be appropriately sized and in good playing condition. A tuner, picks (if used), and a case are also recommended for healthy playing habits and instrument care.
When taking ukulele lessons at East Valley School of Music, we guarantee our students a well-rounded education and understanding of the ukulele. By using a progressive mix of curriculum and customized lessons, students learn how to read music fluently, develop technical proficiency, understand fundamental theory concepts, perform in front of an audience, compose their own music, and improvise popular music.
For ukulele instruction, East Valley School of Music primarily uses the Hal Leonard Ukulele Method and various supplemental books/materials. Students cover a variety of topics, including proper body and hand posture, reading chord charts, reading ukulele tablature, music theory, and more. Students will learn to master technique and perform some of their favorite songs on stage.
