Beginner Group Guitar Classes

Tuition: $295 per term (15 weekly classes)

 

Requirements: No experience is required. Must own a guitar and a tuner to bring to class. 10% discount on purchasing guitar/tuner/equipment if enrolled in the class. Each student is expected to practice 15 minutes daily to keep up with the progress of the class.

Class Description: These beginner courses are designed for students ages 8-12 and 12-16 who want to learn the basics of playing guitar. Students will learn guitar techniques and how to read music while the group environment provides a friendly atmosphere for exploring guitar together.

Book: Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1 by Schmid & Koch

Syllabus:

Week 1:  Fundamentals – Tuning, playing position, plucking vs. strumming

Week 2:  Fundamentals – Finger dexterity and coordination exercises

Week 3:  Musical symbols and Notes on the First String

Week 4:  Review first string, learn notes on the second string

Week 5: Songs with the first two strings and notes on the third string

Week 6: Songs on three strings, the duet, and 3/4 time.

Week 7:  Notes on the fourth string

Week 8:  Fretboard diagrams and chord week.

Week 9: Notes on the fifth string and more songs.

Week 10: Notes on the sixth string and accidentals.

Week 11: Rhythms and rests, song selection for recital.

Week 12: Strumming Patterns

Week 13: New chords, new songs, the bass line.

Week 14: Review performance materials and practice performing.

Week 15: Final Performance for family and friends.
