Our faculty includes university‑trained percussionists, active performers, and specialists in drum set, orchestral percussion, and contemporary rhythm pedagogy. Each instructor is committed to helping students build a strong musical foundation through individualized, goal‑oriented instruction.
EVSM percussion instructors hold degrees in music performance, music education, or percussion pedagogy from respected institutions such as Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, Brigham Young University, and other accredited universities nationwide. Many have extensive experience performing professionally in bands, orchestras, marching ensembles, and studio settings, as well as teaching students of all ages and levels.
Our instructors teach a wide range of styles—rock, pop, jazz, worship, Latin, funk, metal, marching percussion, orchestral percussion, and more. Whether you’re preparing for auditions, building foundational technique, joining a band, or simply wanting to play your favorite grooves, we tailor lessons to your goals.
Students receive a comprehensive rhythmic education, including:
Proper posture, stick grip, and drumming technique
Snare drum fundamentals, rudiments, and coordination
Drum set grooves, fills, and independence
Mallet percussion basics (as appropriate)
Sight‑reading, rhythm development, and ear training
Music theory and ensemble skills
Classical, contemporary, and student‑selected repertoire
Performance preparation and confidence‑building
We use a wide range of method books and materials, selected to match each student’s learning style and musical interests.
When taking percussion lessons at East Valley School of Music, we guarantee our students a well-rounded education and understanding of the instrument. By using a progressive mix of curriculum and customized lessons, students learn how to read music fluently, develop technical proficiency, understand fundamental theory concepts, perform in front of an audience, compose their own music, and improvise popular music. Students cover a variety of topics, including proper posture, technique, reading music, and exposure to appropriate literature. Students will learn to master technique and perform on stage.
