Requirements: Ages 10 to 17. One year of formal experience (e.g. school orchestra, private instruction) or recommendation of current instructor. Students must have an instrument. Regular practice is required.
Class Description: This class will be an engaging and collaborative experience for young musicians. The emphasis is on teamwork and chamber music-making. Students will be working in a small to mid-sized groups to create several recital experiences throughout each semester. They will play pieces appropriate to the level of the group, learn leadership skills and improve their musicianship. The role of the teacher will be to facilitate rehearsals and make the process of playing chamber music less overwhelming and more fun. Students will be expected to take an active role in preparing music ahead of time and being engaged during rehearsals.
Music: There will be a mix of level-appropriate classical pieces and non-classical pieces, such as Irish fiddle tunes, movie score arrangements, and other world music pieces.
