OUR INSTRUCTORS

Mike Kaminski began playing piano at the age of 10. When he was 13, Mike began performing regularly at church. For the next 8 years, he performed in church and played keyboards in the rock band, Rezound, which toured both nationally and internationally. While Mike’s performance is focused on improvisation and jazz, he also has a strong foundation in playing traditional classical music. During his first year in college, Mike studied classical and jazz music at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, and he later graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Mike and his wife, Tabitha, founded East Valley School of Music in 2006 out of a love and passion for teaching music. Mike uses his business skills to manage the school, and he also continues to teach because he loves to see the smile on students’ faces as they learn and grow musically.

Mike joined the Music Teachers National Association in 2006 and was actively involved as a board member in the East Valley Music Teachers Association through the end of his term as president from 2012-2013. Mike also began working on a new piano curriculum in 2016, Piano Power Quest. This unique curriculum engages students in a story in the world of Middle C Earth, and it also incentivizes students to work hard by awarding stars for accuracy and effort. The illustrations and maps make the whole experience of learning piano come to life, empowering students to become successful pianists. Mike continues to work on Piano Power Quest. Once complete, the series will have 5 levels with 4 books in each level, instructing students from ages 5 to 12 from beginners to intermediate levels.
