Sophie Lott, MM, MT‑BC, is a multi‑instrumentalist and dedicated music educator who has lived and taught in the Phoenix area for the past decade. Originally from Oregon, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Oregon (Magna Cum Laude) and a Master of Music in Music Therapy from Arizona State University. Her background in both performance and music therapy gives her a uniquely holistic approach to teaching, grounded in an understanding of human development, neurodiversity, and individualized learning. Since 2017, Sophie has taught private lessons in violin, guitar, ukulele, and piano to students ranging from early childhood through older adults. As a violin specialist, she works with beginners through advanced players, beginning with Essential Elements to establish strong reading and bowing fundamentals before introducing Suzuki repertoire and expanding into varied musical styles. She also enjoys arranging popular music and film/TV themes for her students. On guitar and ukulele, Sophie teaches fingerpicking, strumming, chord fluency, music reading, and stylistic versatility, always adapting materials to each student’s goals and interests while maintaining a relaxed, encouraging learning environment. Her piano instruction focuses on beginners through early‑intermediate students, using age‑appropriate method books such as Faber Piano Adventures and Alfred Basic Piano Course, with an emphasis on sightreading, technique, and confident independent practice habits. Beyond private instruction, Sophie brings extensive experience as a board‑certified music therapist, having worked in clinical, educational, and behavioral health settings with individuals of diverse abilities and needs. She has collaborated with interdisciplinary teams, supported neurodiverse learners, and built strong rapport with families and caregivers throughout her career. Whether teaching or providing therapeutic services, Sophie is known for her patience, organization, active listening, and ability to tailor lessons and materials to each student’s developmental stage, interests, and learning style—creating a supportive, engaging, and growth‑oriented musical experience for every learner.
