Nathan Ramos

Nathan loves music, loves nerding out about theory and technique, and most importantly, loves sharing his knowledge and skills with others. Nathan’s varied experience as a bassist and guitarist in a variety of music-making situations, including worship bands in churches large and small, musical theater pit orchestras, and recording in the studio informs his practical approach to teaching music. He believes that a solid foundation in music theory and healthy technique is essential to musical freedom. He also believes that learning and playing music should be fun (that’s why it’s called playing!). Every lesson is aimed at giving students the technical and artistic tools to make music freely and have fun doing it.

Nathan earned his BA in Commercial and Church music from Concordia University Irvine, where he studied bass guitar with Dana Decker and acoustic guitar with Donovan Raitt. While there, he served as a peer tutor in music theory and aural skills and participated in every ensemble he could, including commercial music ensemble, worship band, jazz combo, Americana ensemble, and even handbell choir! He is currently pursuing his MA in Worship Arts from California Baptist University, studying topics like the philosophy and theology of music and the arts.

Whether you’re a complete beginner picking up a bass or guitar for the first time or you’re an experienced performer looking to bolster your knowledge of harmony or tighten up your technique, Nathan is equipped and excited to work alongside you to achieve your musical goals!
