Xuehui (Michelle) Yu found a passion for playing cello at the age of 8 with Associate Professor
Man Long at the Wuhan Conservatory of Music in China. She is currently pursuing her
Doctorate of Musical Arts at Arizona State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s and
Master’s degrees in Cello Performance. She studied with Professor Landschoot since 2016 and
was the recipient of the Special Talent Award-Music Scholarship and New American University
Scholar at ASU from 2016 to the present.
Xuehui enjoys her career as a cellist, chamber musician, and educator. During her studies, she
has performed with ASU Visiting Quartet Residency Program, Music Theatre and Opera, and
ASU Symphony Orchestra and served as the section and principal cello. She has taught at the
ASU string program since 2021.
As a cellist, Xuehui has performed in many international competitions and music festivals.
Xuehui was the third-place winner of the Great Wall International Music Academy Chamber
Competition in Beijing. She also received the Outstanding Performance Award of the 4th ad 5th
National Aiqing Cello Competition in 2010-2012. Xuehui is enthusiastic about chamber music
and she has participated in various international chamber festivals, including Red Rocks Music
Festival, Fresno International Cello Festival, Montecito International Music Festival, Qingdao
International Music Academy, the Yunnan Dali International String Festival, and the Great Wall
International Music Academy. Xuehui has been working with Shanghai String Quartet, St.
Lawrence String Quartet, Ying Quartet, and Brooklyn Rider String Quartet. Xuehui has
performed in a lot of masterclasses such as Hans Jorgen Jenson, Ko Iwasaki, Uri Vardi, Yehuda
Hanani, and Shumuel Ashkenasi.
