Growing up Ventura County, California, David was surrounded by music in his family and community. He began piano studies at age 4 with his mother, violin at 6 and clarinet at age 10. He immersed himself in a variety of musical experiences because he understood the importance of balance. As a pianist, David was involved with the Music Teachers’ Association of California through the Certificate of Merit Program, Bach Festivals, Contemporary Festivals and more. David made his professional debut at the age of 17 with the Ventura Music Festival and has performed concerti with many groups in the Ventura County area as a young guest artist.
David decided to continue music studies at a collegiate level, graduating with high distinction in July of 2019 from the Jacob’s School of Music at Indiana University (Bloomington, IN). In his undergraduate degree, he maintained an active and balanced lifestyle while juggling collaborative projects, major coursework, a minor in psychology and teaching. He also was fortunate enough to study in Vienna, Austria for a semester abroad during his program which reignited his love and passion for music. He has attended summer festivals and workshops such as John Perry’s Piano Academy (San Juan Capistrano, CA), Rebecca Penney’s Piano Festival (Tampa, FL), International Keyboard Institute and Festival (New York, NY) and the European Music Institute Vienna (Vienna, Austria). His past teachers include Jean-Louis Haguenauer, Norman Krieger, Edward Francis Jr. and Martin Hughes.
During his high school years, he served as teaching assistant to a local piano company. He continued instructing peers as section leader and drum major for his high school. Later he taught for the famous piano pedagogue Karen Taylor at Indiana University as a part of the Young Pianists Program and Piano Academy. David is excited to teach at East Valley School of Music and help students along their musical journeys!
